This cultural exchange is open to students from 13 to 17 years old in  Alberta only.

The BelCanFran exchange program is made possible through the endorsement of Alberta Ministry of Learning and participating School Districts in Alberta. The BelCanFran reciprocal family exchange promotes French  language development, through a linguistic and cultural immersion within a family and school setting.

About us
Female Student

School Program
11 Weeks Exchange

You will host your exchange partner from late August to the beginning of November. You will travel to your host family at the beginning of February and will return at the end of April. While in Europe you will attend school and experience the daily life of the family. The exchange student will attend your school (with the approval of your Principal) and will share in the daily life of your family. Exchange students from Belgium or France and Canada are matched by gender, age, basic interests and activities.

Summer Program
One Month Exchange

The one month exchange program involves a family- partner matching on the same basis and cost as the 11 weeks exchange. The Canadian student spends July in Belgium or France and returns with their partner to Canada for the month of August. The Belgium/French partner returns home at the end of August.

“I wanted to reach out to thank you so much for the incredible job you have done matching Eden and Matisse together. In one week, they have become fast friends. Eden is such a delight to have here with us. Open, engaging, kind - her attitude/approach to all the new experiences is wonderful. Matisse seems so happy to have a friend and they are both looking forward to heading to school at the end of this week. I am sure that there are so many factors to consider when matching families. You have done an exceptional job with your experience, sensitivity and thoughtfulness. I am so grateful. Thank you! ”

“ I just wanted to pass along our sincere thanks for the chance to participate in the program.  Lilie has been an absolutely wonderful guest.  Having her in our home has inspired us to look at our city and part of the world with fresh eyes, and revisit so many things that fall by the wayside when you're a lifelong Calgarian, interesting places and events that you stop going to after having "done them a thousand times" - if you catch my meaning. We will be sad to see Lilie go, she's become a part of our household.  But the adventure continues, and I'm sure that Dilia will have a wonderful time when she visits France, and in some ways she'll have an easier time adjusting, as she already has a friend to meet and stay with when she arrives. Cheers!”

“We had a wonderful experience with the exchange student from France.  Not only did our daughter find a friend for life, but she enriched our whole family through the experience.  Now our daughter is enjoying the reciprocal hospitality in France and is having the time of her life.  We are sure this will prove to be a life-changing experience.  Thank you Ron and Lise for facilitating such a wonderful experience.”

—  Matthew Page-Hanify

"I am very glad that I had the amazing opportunity to be part of this wonderful experience. France has been absolutely amazing and truly a dream come true! Being immersed in this wonderful country’s culture and meeting so many new people is something I wil never forget and forever cherish."

—  Carlae B.

"This was an unforgettable experience and I’m so grateful I got to spend time improving my French and meeting new people. I can’t wait to come back and see all the friends I made."

—  Evelyn S.
